Tesla FSD Passes 17 Billion Miles: What the Counter Means

By 4 min read

Bright sun?Back indoors?

TL;DR

  • Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) counter showed more than 17 billion miles on November 2, 2026. On the evening we checked, it read 17,012,963,112 total miles and 6,761,184,936 city miles.
  • The miles are Tesla’s own figures, counted from FSD’s 2020 launch, and the page says the counter may not include free-trial mileage.
  • The counter does not change what FSD does in your car. You are still the driver, and Tesla’s page says supervision is required.

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Vehicle Safety Report page now shows more than 17 billion miles driven with FSD (Supervised) engaged. When we opened the page on the evening of November 2, 2026, it showed 17,012,963,112 miles, with 6,761,184,936 of them on city streets. The counter is live, so the figure on the page will be higher by the time you read this.

How many miles has Tesla FSD (Supervised) driven?

More than 17 billion, by Tesla’s count. According to the page’s FAQ, overall FSD (Supervised) mileage is presented from 2020 onward, which is when FSD (Supervised) launched. A footnote says the counters “increment at the average rate of Tesla fleet mileage per second” and may not include mileage from the growing fleet and free trials. In other words, it is an estimate that Tesla updates continuously, not an audited total.

Where is FSD (Supervised) available?

The same page lists 17 markets with successful rollouts: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia and Latvia. Tesla says that where it is approved, eligible cars get it through an over-the-air update. If you are in the U.S., see our guide to what FSD costs now.

What does the safety report actually measure?

The page also publishes collision rates, and Tesla says that with FSD (Supervised) engaged and under active supervision, the likelihood of a collision goes down compared with the estimated U.S. average. We are not repeating the collision-rate figures here, because Tesla refreshes them every quarter on a rolling 12-month basis and the numbers are best read on the page itself. A few things Tesla spells out in its methodology are worth knowing:

  • What counts as a collision. A “major” collision is one where an airbag or other non-reversible restraint deploys. A “minor” one is an impact of at least 8 km/h of speed change within 150 milliseconds.
  • When FSD counts as engaged. If FSD (Supervised) was active at any point in the five seconds before a collision, Tesla counts it as engaged.
  • No fault. Tesla says it does not attribute fault in these numbers.
  • The U.S. average is an estimate. Tesla says its calculation involves assumptions that may skew the comparison higher or lower than presented.

These are Tesla’s own data and Tesla’s own method. They are useful context, not a promise about any single drive.

What it means if you drive a Tesla

Nothing changes on your screen today because of the milestone. FSD (Supervised) still needs your active supervision, which is how Tesla’s page describes it. If you want a number of your own, the FSD v14.3.13 release notes, as listed by Teslascope and Not a Tesla App for HW4 cars, say you can now see the distance traveled in FSD (Supervised) without an intervention, and that the Self-Driving app shows your longest intervention-free streak. Cars on HW3 get FSD v14.3 Lite, which has its own notes, so check the notes on your own car. Our post on what HW3 cars get explains the difference, and the FSD version tracker shows which build goes to which computer.

Mileage figures are from Tesla’s page on the evening of November 2, 2026, and change continuously.
