FSD v14 Lite on HW3: what older Teslas actually get

By 3 min read

Bright sun?Back indoors?

Illustrated night view from the driver's seat of an older Tesla, with the center touchscreen showing a simplified self-driving visualization of the car in its lane surrounded by outlined boxes for nearby vehicles, as a road with glowing blue lane markers stretches ahead under a starry sky with a faint circuit-board pattern.

If your Tesla has Hardware 3, FSD (Supervised) v14 Lite is the build made for your car. Tesla started rolling it out to HW3 Model 3 and Model Y on June 29, 2026 with software version 2026.20.5.1, according to Not a Tesla App, and it went to a wider release in July with 2026.20.6.11, as Tesla Oracle reported.

First, check which computer you have

Not every older car is the same, so check before you get your hopes up.

  1. On the touchscreen, tap Controls.
  2. Tap Software.
  3. Tap Additional Vehicle Information.
  4. Look at the Autopilot computer line. If it says HW3, this article is for you.

What v14 Lite changes, per Tesla’s release notes

According to the official notes, as published by Not a Tesla App:

  • Tesla distilled what it learned on HW4 v14 into HW3, using HW4 v14 as a guide for how to handle scenarios.
  • Better responsiveness at merges and forks, around pedestrians, at traffic lights and when cars cut in.
  • Fewer false slowdowns, smoother steering and more consistent lane centering.
  • New parking, unparking and reversing.
  • Arrival Options, so you can pick where it parks: a parking lot, the street, a driveway or the curb.
  • Speed Profiles available at all times.

A later build, 2026.20.6.10, added the Self-Driving app, streaks and the option to turn off the brake confirmation when starting from Park, per Not a Tesla App.

What it does not change

Lite is the honest word here. HW3 has less computing power than HW4, so it will not run the same full model, as Tesla Oracle notes. And it is still FSD (Supervised). Tesla’s own notes say you must remain attentive and that it does not make your vehicle autonomous. Hands ready, eyes on the road.

“This feature does not make your vehicle autonomous and you must remain attentive and be ready to take over at any time.”Tesla release notes for 2026.20.5.1, via Not a Tesla App

Where HW3 stands now

Updates have kept coming. Our software updates hub lists 2026.38.5.10 as the newest version we have covered for HW3, and 2026.38.5.1 brought FSD v14.3 Lite to older Model S and Model X for the first time.

Rollouts come in waves. Your car may sit a version or two behind for a while. Check the software updates hub to see what is current.

Owner to owner

If you have a 2023 Model Y or another HW3 car, try the new parking and Arrival Options on a quiet lot first, set a Speed Profile you are comfortable with, and see how it handles your regular commute. Then tell us how it went. Which build are you on, and what improved for you?
