If you paid Tesla for a windshield or camera cleaning after an FSD v14.3.9 “clean your cameras” warning that turned out to be false, Tesla says you can get that charge refunded.
What the bug actually does
FSD v14.3.9, on software builds 2026.27.5 and 2026.27.6, began rolling out around September 12 and falsely flags clean front cameras as dirty, according to Electrek, misreading normal glare and bright sunlight as an obstructed lens. The warning often reappears on the same drive even right after the car has been cleaned. Tesla has confirmed the software fault and says it’s “proactively canceling service visits that owners booked because of it.”
How to get your money back
Tesla hasn’t published a formal refund policy for this specific issue, but Not a Tesla App reports that owners who already paid for a cleaning or inspection because of the false alert should contact Tesla Support directly, and that service advisors are expected to issue credits or refunds once Tesla finalizes internal guidance. A follow-up release, FSD v14.3.10, is rolling out gradually and may address the underlying bug, though Tesla hasn’t confirmed that in its release notes.
Ryan Shaw, who covers Tesla news and owner tips on his channel, walked through the bug and the refund angle three days after Tesla confirmed it, in a video posted September 25, 2026:
Shaw’s video is one person’s take on the story, not a substitute for talking to Tesla Support directly — if you’re affected, the written sources above are the ones to act on.
