Tesla confirms a false “clean your cameras” alert in FSD v14.3.9. Don’t book that service visit.

If your Tesla’s touchscreen recently warned that your cameras need cleaning, the problem is probably the software, not your windshield. Tesla has confirmed that FSD v14.3.9 contains a bug that falsely flags clean cameras as dirty, and it’s cancelling the service visits that alert has been triggering.

What the alert says, and why it’s wrong

Owners on v14.3.9 have been seeing the message “Poor camera visibility detected. Interior windshield residue cleaning is required,” even when the cameras are clean, according to Electrek’s reporting on the bug. The alert tends to fire in bright sun or glare, misreading normal lighting conditions as an obstructed view. Not a Tesla App traces the cause to an overly sensitive camera-visibility check introduced in that build, which rolled out around September 12, 2026 as software versions 2026.27.5 and 2026.27.6 — the same release that added Automatic Collision Evasion for Hardware 4 cars.

What to do if you see it

Tesla is proactively cancelling the service appointments the false alert has generated, and owners who haven’t yet scheduled a visit should not book one over this warning alone — wipe the interior camera area if you want to be sure, but the alert itself isn’t reliable right now. If you already paid for a cleaning or inspection triggered by the bug, Electrek reports you can contact Tesla Support directly for a refund; it isn’t being processed automatically for past bookings.

Is it fixed yet?

Tesla has started rolling out v14.3.10, but as of Not a Tesla App’s September 21 report, the release notes for that build don’t specifically mention the camera-alert fix, and reports of the false warning have so far been limited to v14.3.9. If your car is still on that version and the alert pops up, treat it as a known software issue rather than something wrong with your car.
