Tesla has moved the next-generation Roadster demonstration from October 1 to Thursday, October 15, 2026, according to Electrek. If you drive or plan to buy a Model 3 or Model Y, nothing about your car or your order changes.
What Tesla said
Tesla announced the change on X. As Electrek quotes it, Tesla said it had been "tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists" and that "given the severe conditions predicted & because this event can only be held outdoors," it made "the difficult decision to reschedule." Tesla said additional details would follow.
What is planned
Electrek reports the event is for invited guests and will take place at SpaceX’s rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, near Waco. It describes a demo in which the Roadster hovers using a "SpaceX-developed cold gas thruster package," with no one in the car. BASENOR also reports the October 15 date and says early reservation holders have received invitations. Tesla has not said, in anything we could confirm, that the event will be public or streamed.
What is not confirmed
Electrek reports that production is still guided for "2027 or 2028." We found no confirmed price, specifications or delivery date from Tesla. Electrek also questions whether weather is the only reason for a two-week delay, noting the forecast clears within a few days. That is the outlet’s view, not a Tesla statement.
What it means for owners
- No effect on current Model 3, Model Y or other deliveries.
- If you hold a Roadster reservation, wait for Tesla’s own announcements before making plans around the date.
- Treat any figures you see before October 15 as unconfirmed.
As of October 11, 2026, the event has not happened. We will update coverage if Tesla publishes details.
