Tesla postponed its new Roadster reveal to October 15, citing weather.

Tesla has delayed the reveal of its next-generation Roadster by two weeks, pushing the event from October 1 to October 15 in Waco, Texas, nearly nine years after the original concept first rolled onto a stage in 2017.

If you’re not a current Tesla owner shopping a Model 3, Model Y, Model S, or Model X, there’s a simple reason to know about this car: it isn’t one of them, and it won’t be for a while.

Why the delay

Tesla said on X that the event “can only be held outdoors,” since the reveal is expected to involve a demonstration using SpaceX-developed cold gas thrusters, and that forecasters were calling for severe thunderstorms with heavy rain near the venue on the original date. The company says it’s still planning the event for reservation holders only, with RSVPs required in advance.

What’s still not confirmed

Pricing, final specs, and interior details haven’t been officially released, and the company’s internal target for actual Roadster production remains 2027 or 2028 at Gigafactory Texas — so whatever is shown on October 15 still isn’t something you’ll be able to order and drive home. Tesla has delayed the Roadster’s launch repeatedly since 2017, including two previously scheduled demos earlier this year that didn’t happen.

Why this matters if you’re not buying a Roadster

It doesn’t change anything about ordering or owning a Model 3, Y, S, or X today. If you’re mid-order, your delivery timeline, pricing, and incentive eligibility are unaffected by the Roadster event. If you’re simply curious, the most reliable way to get real information is to wait for Tesla’s own account of what’s shown on October 15, rather than pre-event rumors.
