Not special ones, but the right sizes matter, and they’re different for a Model 3 than a Model Y.
What size to buy
Tesla’s own Model 3 service guide lists a 26-inch blade for the driver’s side and a 19-inch blade for the passenger’s side. A Model Y uses that same 26-inch driver’s-side blade but pairs it with a slightly longer 20-inch passenger-side blade, according to Not a Tesla App’s blade-size guide. Buying a generic “Tesla wiper kit” without checking which model it’s cut for is the easiest way to end up with a blade that’s a size off.
The connector is the other thing that trips people up
Tesla uses a Bosch-style wiper arm tab rather than the hook-style connector common on older gas cars. Most kits sold specifically for Model 3 and Model Y already include the right adapter, but if you’re buying generic Bosch blades, confirm they support the Bosch #4 or #6 adapter your car needs. Tesla’s own guidance is blunt about the risk of getting this wrong: using a blade with the wrong connector or profile can damage the wiper arm or the windshield itself, not just fail to fit.
How to actually swap them
Park the car, then go to Controls > Service > Wiper Service Mode. That lifts the wipers into a service position for easier access and stops them from swinging into motion if the car detects rain while you’re working. Pop the old blade off, snap the new one onto the arm, and do a push-pull test to make sure it’s locked before you close the app and drive off. Tesla also lets you log the swap under Controls > Service > Maintenance, which is a convenient way to track when you last did it without relying on memory.
How often to replace them
Tesla recommends replacing wiper blades at least once a year. Streaking, skipping, or a visible chatter across the glass are all signs it’s time sooner than that, especially after a hot summer that can dry out and crack the rubber edge faster than in milder climates.
Bosch ICON blades — the same style Tesla ships from the factory — are a safe default if you’d rather not hunt for a Tesla-specific kit, since they’re built for the same connector without needing an adapter.
