Tesla Home is a dashboard that automates when your Powerwall, solar, and Tesla charge using an AI system called Opticaster. It launched in July 2026 and needs no new hardware for existing Powerwall owners.
What it controls
Tesla Home “controls your home battery, solar, Wall Connector and smart breakers” to cut electricity costs, according to Electrek. It comes standard on every Powerwall, and it also works with Tesla solar panels, Wall Connectors, and Eaton’s AbleEdge smart breakers. Owners pick a goal — “Savings” or “Self-Powered” — and the Opticaster AI engine makes the day-to-day decisions about when to store or use electricity based on that choice and current utility rates.
Why it matters for charging your car
The system supports Rate Plan Charging, which times EV charging to the cheapest hours on your electricity rate plan rather than just charging whenever you plug in, per Electrek’s reporting. Tesla says the Opticaster engine has been refined using more than a hundred million hours of operational data collected from Powerwalls already in the field, so the “launch” is mostly a new consumer-facing interface for optimization Tesla has been running for years, not a brand-new algorithm.
