Tesla’s newest FSD update splits into two different builds

Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving release, v14.3.11, isn’t one update anymore, it’s two. Which build your car gets, and how much it can do, now depends on which computer is inside it.

HW4 cars get the full build, HW3 cars get “Lite”

Tesla began rolling out FSD v14.3.11 on October 7, 2026 under firmware 2026.33.5, starting with its Early Access Group. The full v14.3.11 build only goes to AI4 (HW4) cars, generally 2024-and-newer Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. At the same time, older AI3 (HW3) cars, pre-2024 Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X, are instead getting a separate “FSD v14.3 Lite” build on the same firmware number. Lite is described as a distilled version of the HW4 stack adapted to run on the older hardware.

Lite leaves some features out

Owners on HW3 shouldn’t expect the identical experience. According to the same rollout coverage, Lite includes Start Self-Driving from Park, Speed Profiles, and Arrival Options, but it does not include Automatic Collision Evasion, a feature that can brake or steer during manual driving if a frontal collision looks imminent and braking alone may not stop it. That feature stays HW4-only for now. Separately, the v14.3.11 release notes for HW4 cars match the prior v14.3.9 notes, meaning most of what’s new is under-the-hood refinement rather than new visible features this round.

How to check which build you’re on

You can check for the update from the car’s touchscreen under Software, or in the Tesla app; tapping the software version number on the screen can also prompt a check. If nothing shows up yet, Tesla is rolling this out in waves, so a car not seeing it yet isn’t unusual. After installing, the version number should read 2026.33.5 regardless of whether your car received the full build or Lite, so checking your hardware generation is the only way to know which one you actually got.

Dirty Tesla, a channel that tests Tesla software builds as they roll out, published a first-drive video of the new build on October 7, 2026.

That video shows one HW4 car’s experience with the update; the hardware and feature differences described above come from the rollout reporting linked above, not from the video itself.
