The price on a Tesla's order page is not the amount that leaves your account. For the Model Y, two charges sit on top of the listed price before taxes: a destination charge and an order fee. This guide adds them up for each trim, shows the arithmetic, and lists what is still missing from the total.
The three numbers on top of the sticker price
Every Model Y order in the US carries the same three pieces, according to a July 2026 pricing breakdown that checked Tesla's configurator on July 26, 2026:
- The listed price for the trim you pick.
- A $1,390 destination charge. It is listed at the same $1,390 on every Model Y trim in that breakdown.
- A $250 order fee. It is collected when you commit to an order and is marked non-refundable on the order page.
Prices change often, so treat every figure here as "as of July 26, 2026" and confirm the live number on Tesla's order page before you commit. Tesla's configurator pages block automated tools, so the figures below come from that dated pricing breakdown and from the lineup data behind GetTesla's calculators.
What each Model Y trim costs before tax

The same breakdown lists higher trims, including the Performance and the long-wheelbase Model Y L. Those prices have moved since July, so check them on the order page rather than relying on a table here. A worked example: the rear-wheel-drive Model Y
Start with the lowest-priced trim and do the sum in the open:
- Listed price: $39,990
- Add the destination charge: $39,990 + $1,390 = $41,380
- Add the order fee: $41,380 + $250 = $41,630
That $41,630 is the all-in figure the July breakdown lists for this trim. It also explains why you may see two different "starting prices" for the same car: one that stops at $41,380 leaves out the order fee, and one at $41,630 includes it.
Now add sales tax. Rates differ by state and often by county, so here is an illustration with a made-up rate of 6%, not any state's actual rate. Tax is usually figured on the vehicle price, so 6% of $39,990 is about $2,399. In that example the order total rises to roughly $44,029 before registration. Your real number comes from your state and county, so use your own rate rather than this one.
What the extra money buys, trim by trim
A cheaper way to compare trims is to divide the total by the EPA range. The ranges below come from the lineup data behind GetTesla's calculators (EPA figures, last checked October 4, 2026), and the totals add the $1,640 in fees to each listed price:

For example, $41,630 divided by 321 miles is about $130 a mile. The Premium rear-wheel-drive trim costs $6,000 more but adds 36 miles of range, so its cost per mile barely moves. All-wheel drive costs more per mile of range because it trades some range for traction and quicker acceleration. Range per dollar is not the only thing that matters, but it shows where your money goes.
What the total still leaves out
The all-in figure excludes tax, title and registration. Those are set by your state, so ask your state's motor vehicle office what applies to you. Three more costs are worth planning for before delivery day:

- Home charging. A wall connector and installation are separate from the car's price. If you have a 240V outlet already, you may need nothing extra. The charging calculator shows time and cost for your setup.
- Options that change the price. Paint, wheels and software packages are chosen when you configure the car, and the total above does not include them.
Which trim to pay for

Whatever you choose, write down the full total before tax, not just the listed price. That one number is the one to compare against your budget, your loan quote and any other car you are weighing, and it keeps the $1,640 in fees from surprising you later in the process.
