Tesla’s quarter closes September 30, but ordering a Model 3 or Model Y right now won’t get you a car before it does. Tesla’s own order pages are quoting delivery windows stretching into early 2027 for several trims — a much longer wait than Tesla typically shows buyers.
What the order pages currently show
As of this week, TeslaNorth reports the estimated delivery windows on Tesla’s US configurator read: Model 3 RWD, January to March 2027; Model Y RWD and Model Y AWD, both December 2026 to January 2027; and the Model Y L Premium AWD Launch Series, January to February 2027. Tesla usually quotes new orders in weeks or a few months, so a 2027 estimate on mainstream trims is a real change from what buyers have seen most of this year.
This follows the base Model 3 RWD effectively selling out for 2026 delivery in late August, which Forbes reported at the time — the entry trim’s queue has only grown longer since.
What this means if you order this week
The quarter-end date only matters for cars Tesla can actually deliver by September 30. If you’re ordering a Model 3 RWD or a Model Y this week, plan on a 2027 delivery, not a Q3 one — the order pages aren’t quoting anything faster right now. If getting your car sooner matters more than the specific trim, ask your delivery advisor whether a different configuration or a car already in transit to your area has a shorter window; inventory vehicles and less popular configurations can sometimes deliver much faster than a new custom order.
Estimated delivery windows on Tesla’s site are just that — estimates, not guarantees — and they can move in either direction as production and demand shift. Check the window on your own configuration before you order, since it can differ from the figures above by the time you place your order.
