TL;DR
Germany's motor transport authority KBA says Tesla registered 2,932 new cars in Germany in October 2026, up 290.9% from October 2025. Through October, Tesla has 47,742 registrations this year, up 206.1%. BYD finished October ahead of Tesla and leads the year to date by 219 cars. These are Germany-only figures and change nothing for U.S. owners.
Tesla's new car registrations in Germany almost quadrupled in October 2026. Reuters reported on November 4 that the German road traffic agency KBA put the month at 2,932 cars, up 290.9% from a year earlier. By our math, that means Tesla registered roughly 750 cars in Germany in October 2025.
What did KBA report for Tesla and the German market?
A registration counts a car put on the road in Germany. It is not the same as Tesla's worldwide deliveries. Here are the figures from Reuters and ADAC's summary of the KBA release:
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Tesla registrations, October 2026 | 2,932 (up 290.9% from October 2025) |
| Tesla registrations, January to October 2026 | 47,742 (up 206.1%) |
| Tesla share of all new cars in October | 1.2% |
| All new cars registered in Germany, October | 254,492 (up 1.7%) |
| All new battery-electric cars, October | 94,086 (up 79.5%), a 37.0% share |
How does Tesla compare with BYD in Germany?
Reuters says KBA data gave BYD a 2.0% share in October, Leapmotor 1.4% and Xpeng 0.5%, against Tesla's 1.2%. Teslarati reports BYD registered 5,173 cars and Leapmotor 3,661. We Talk Tesla adds that BYD leads Tesla for the year so far, 47,961 to 47,742, a gap of 219 cars with two months left. It also notes the brand totals can include powertrains Tesla does not sell, so this is not a battery-only ranking.
Why is October so far below September?
Teslarati says Tesla registered 12,552 cars in Germany in September, one of its strongest months on record there. October's 2,932 is far lower. Neither Tesla nor KBA gave a reason in the sources we found, so we will not guess. September is the last month of a quarter. Mein Tesla Blog notes that KBA has not yet published its model-by-model table, so it is not yet known which Tesla models made up the October total.
What does it mean for Tesla owners?
For owners in the U.S., nothing changes. The numbers show how Tesla is selling in one European market, where Tesla's registrations are up sharply, yet BYD and Leapmotor still registered more cars in October.
