How the FSD referral works
- Your friend gets: one month of FSD (Supervised) as a free trial, started from your link.
- You get: a free month of FSD if you subscribe, or $99 in Tesla Credits if you own FSD outright. Either way, it only counts once your friend subscribes during their trial.
- The limit: 12 FSD (Supervised) referrals per calendar year, the cap stated on the Refer and Earn screen in the Tesla app and reported by Tesla North.
- Where: the US only, as of October 30.
In the Tesla app, the Refer and Earn screen now leads with the FSD offer and a Share Your Link button. You customize and confirm the message before it goes out, and a counter tracks rewards earned toward the yearly cap. Tesla's terms and conditions apply, and they decide who qualifies for the trial.
What's new here
Until now, Tesla's referral rewards centered on new car orders: a buyer who orders through a referral link gets months of FSD (Supervised) on the new car. The new program is for people who already own a Tesla. Nobody has to buy a car; the friend only has to try FSD and decide to keep it. Signs of it surfaced days earlier, when Not a Tesla App found FSD referral prompts in the code of Tesla app 4.62.
What it means for owners
If you've never tried FSD (Supervised), a friend's link is now the cheapest way to see it on your own roads. It drives with you supervising: Tesla requires an attentive driver ready to take over at all times. If you already subscribe, each friend who keeps FSD is worth a month off your own bill.
