TL;DR: Elon Musk says Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of 2027 to make room for more Cybercab production. Tesla hasn't said whether the truck moves to another plant or ends for good.
What Musk said
In a post on X early Friday, November 6, Musk wrote: "Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production."
Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill replied on X: "Cybertruck was an incredible technology development platform and lives on through Cybercab." He also thanked the people who worked on the truck and the community of owners.
What is and isn't confirmed
- Confirmed: production at Gigafactory Texas winds down around mid-2027, per Musk's post.
- Confirmed: the reason given is more room for Cybercab production.
- Not confirmed: whether Cybertruck production moves to another factory or ends. Reuters reports that this wasn't immediately clear, and that the Austin plant is the only known Tesla facility equipped to build the truck's specialized parts.
- Not confirmed: any change to orders, pricing, service or parts. Tesla hadn't responded to Reuters' request for comment as of early Friday, about 4 AM ET.
Why Cybercab gets the space
Cybercab is the driverless vehicle at the center of Tesla's robotaxi plans, and Musk's post makes clear it's built at the same Texas factory. Reuters notes that Musk has made Cybercab the main model for a planned driverless network, while the Cybertruck has faced recalls, quality issues and repeated price changes since its 2023 launch.
What it means for owners and buyers
If you already own a Cybertruck, neither Musk nor Tesla has announced any change for trucks already on the road. If you've been thinking about buying one new, the window may be closing around mid-2027 unless Tesla says production continues somewhere else.
