Elon Musk said on X on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at about 2:39 PM ET that a 40 kWh battery pack is coming for the Cybercab, and that the car will be offered in liquid silver. This is a statement of intent, not a product announcement.
What he said
His words:
"There are efficiency improvements coming that will allow for a 40kWh Cybercab pack. We will make this in liquid silver, so the colors are not too monotonous."
What is confirmed and what is not
- Said by Musk: efficiency improvements are "coming" that will allow a 40 kWh pack, and Cybercab will be made in liquid silver.
- Not stated: when the smaller pack would ship, whether it replaces an existing pack, the Cybercab's range, its price, or when liquid silver would be available.
- Not an owner product: the Cybercab is Tesla's robotaxi. The post does not say anything about a pack or color for Model 3, Model Y or any car you can order today.
For scale, 40 kWh is a battery capacity, the amount of energy a pack holds. The statement gives no range figure, so it does not say how far the car will go on a charge.
What it means for owners and buyers
Nothing changes for a car you own or have ordered. The statement is useful context on where Tesla says the Cybercab design is heading. Treat the pack size and color as plans until Tesla publishes specifications.
For earlier Cybercab coverage, see our posts on the Cybercab Europe tour and the Cybercab at China's Import Expo, and our Cybercab hub for the facts we have sourced. Our report on Cybertruck production winding down in mid-2027 covers his earlier comments on the Cybertruck line.
As of 4:45 PM ET Nov. 7, this is the only source for the statement. We will update the story if Tesla publishes specifications.
