Tesla's mobile app now has a layout made for larger screens. On Oct. 23 at 9:01 PM ET, Tesla's main X account posted a short video of the app running on a big screen, with the line "Tesla app now on the big screens."
What is new
Until now, the app on a tablet was the phone app stretched to fit. According to Not a Tesla App, the new layout is a two-column design:
- A menu on the left that stays visible when you open a section such as Charging.
- A large view of your car on the right, with the same quick actions as the phone app, including opening the frunk or trunk and locking or unlocking the car.
- New Customize Controls and Show psi buttons, the second of which displays tire pressures on the car view.
- Redesigned Tesla Energy screens for homes with a Powerwall, including live energy readings.
iPhone in Canada describes the same two-column design for vehicles and for Powerwall homes.
Which devices
Both outlets report that Tesla UI engineer Alex Guichet said the redesigned app is rolling out for iPad, iPhone Duo and Android tablets and foldables. On a foldable, the layout is meant for the larger inner screen. Not a Tesla App reports that the outer screen keeps the phone layout.
When owners will see it
The rollout is gradual. Both outlets report Guichet saying it "may take an extra week or two for everyone to get it." As of Oct. 21, iPhone in Canada found the App Store still listing version 4.61.6 from Oct. 8, which suggests the layout is being switched on without a new download. Some iPad users still see the old layout. Tesla has not published a version number for the change that this site could confirm, so check the App Store for updates rather than relying on a number.
What it means for owners
If you use a Tesla app on an iPad or a foldable, you may see the new layout appear without doing anything. Phone users see no change. Tesla's engineer also said the team will keep improving the layout in future releases, so expect the screens to keep changing.
This post will be updated if Tesla publishes release notes or a version number. Rollout timing and availability can vary by device and region.
