Cybercab fleet calculator: how many do you want to own?
Pick your miles, fares and costs. See what one cab could earn in a year, how many it takes to reach your income goal, and how long the cars take to pay for themselves.
At our base inputs one Cybercab nets about $22,100 a year before income tax and pays back in about 1.1 years, so 5 cabs reach $100K and 46 reach $1M. The 150-mile post going around puts $100K at 4 cabs. Hypothetical, and every input is yours to change. Checked Oct 26, 2026.
Elon Musk said on Sep 4, 2026 that the first customer Cybercab delivery is on track for before the end of the year. Tesla has not opened orders, confirmed a price, or said what share of each fare it would keep. Every input here is an assumption you can change.

Using your inputs above, here is how many Cybercabs it takes to reach a yearly income before income tax.
5 cabs
Each cab keeps about $22,126 a year, so 5 cover $100K. Small enough to start with a couple, see what they actually earn, and grow.

A Cybercab or a rental property?
The pull of the idea is how fast the money could come back. Here are the two side by side, without the hype.
| Question | Cybercab fleet | Rental property |
|---|---|---|
| Money in | $30,000 a car. 5 cabs for $100K a year cost $150K. | A down payment, closing costs, and often a mortgage. |
| Earns back | In 1.1 yr at your inputs, if the miles hold. | Usually many years from rent alone. |
| Value over time | Falls. At 65K miles a year the car wears out and needs replacing. | Can rise with the market. |
| Day-to-day work | Daily: charging, cleaning, tires, repairs, spills. | Occasional: tenants, repairs, the late-night broken toilet. |
| Fixed costs | Insurance, depot space, the network's share. | Property tax, insurance, vacancies, the mortgage. |
| Biggest risk | Fares, paid miles and Tesla's terms are all unknown. | Rates, vacancies and local rules. |
04 / What decides it
What decides a Cybercab's earnings
- 01
Can a cab average 150 paid miles a day?
Every figure above scales with it. Riders cluster at rush hour and late at night; the middle of the day is quieter.
- 02
How many miles run empty?
Driving to the next pickup costs power and wear and earns nothing.
- 03
What will Tesla keep?
The 30% in most models is a guess. Tesla has not announced owner terms.
- 04
Where will fares settle?
Cybercab rides already quote below Model Y. More cars and more competitors could push them lower.
- 05
How much time is lost off the road?
Charging, cleaning and repairs all take hours a cab is not earning.
- 06
Who runs the fleet?
Four cabs is a side project. Thirty-four is a business, with staff, a depot and insurance to match.
Method
How the calculator counts it
Fares are paid miles times your fare per mile, over the days the cab works. The network share comes off the top. Charging and upkeep follow total miles, which add the empty miles driven between riders. Insurance is a flat yearly cost. Depreciation spreads the price, less your resale value, over five years: think of it as the money set aside to replace the car. The yearly figure per cab is after depreciation and before income tax; payback uses cash before depreciation.
Not counted: financing, depot or parking rent, sales tax and registration, software fees, local permits, and the time it takes to run the fleet.

Questions
Cybercab earnings FAQ
Numbers come from the calculator's presets. Checked Oct 26, 2026.
How much could one Cybercab earn a year?
At our base inputs (130 paid miles a day at $1.25 a mile, 336 days, a 30% Tesla share) one Cybercab nets about $22,100 a year after charging, upkeep, insurance and money set aside to replace the car, before income tax. The widely shared 150-mile scenario lands near $30,000. Both are hypothetical: Tesla has not sold a Cybercab or published owner terms.
How many Cybercabs would it take to make $100,000 a year?
About 5 at our base inputs, or 4 in the 150-mile scenario. For $1,000,000 a year the counts are 46 and 34. Change any input above and the counts update.
How long would a Cybercab take to pay for itself?
About 1.1 years at our base inputs, counting cash before depreciation. A cab that runs fewer paid miles, or a higher Tesla share, stretches it.
What share of each fare would Tesla keep?
Tesla has not announced owner terms. Our presets assume 30%, the figure most published estimates use; the slider lets you try any share from 0 to 70%.
Can I buy a Cybercab or add my car to the Robotaxi network?
Not yet. Tesla has said owners will be able to add their own cars to the Robotaxi network, but the program is not open and Tesla has not said what share of each fare owners would keep. Elon Musk said the first customer Cybercab delivery is on track for before the end of 2026 (Elon Musk on X, Sep 4, 2026).
Is this a Tesla figure or real income?
No. Every number on this page is a hypothetical built from assumptions you can change. It is an estimate for planning, not financial, investment or tax advice, and Tesla has published no earnings figures for owners.
