Tesla will open its dedicated Semi factory in Nevada on September 24.

Tesla will hold an invite-only rollout event on September 24 at its dedicated Semi factory in Sparks, Nevada, marking the ceremonial opening of a plant built to eventually produce up to 50,000 electric trucks a year.

What’s opening

The new facility sits next to Gigafactory Nevada and covers roughly 1.7 million square feet, according to Electrek, which first reported the September 24 date on August 24, 2026. The plant is part of a $3.6 billion Nevada expansion Tesla announced in 2023, and the event will include factory tours and ride-alongs in the truck for invited guests, Teslarati reports.

Production is already running

The September event is ceremonial, not a launch — Tesla’s high-volume Semi line has been running since April 2026, when the company confirmed the first truck had rolled off it. Tesla program director Dan Priestley said production "is now ramping" following that line launch, per Electrek’s reporting. Analysts covering the ramp estimate Tesla will deliver somewhere between 5,000 and 15,000 Semis in 2026, well short of the plant’s eventual 50,000-truck nameplate capacity, according to FreightWaves. Tesla’s largest confirmed order to date is 500 trucks from the delivery company Einride.

What it means if you own a car, not a truck

The Semi factory doesn’t change anything about owning a Model 3, Y, S, or X. But it’s one data point in how much Tesla is spending right now: the company has told investors its 2026 capital expenditures will exceed $25 billion, funding the Semi ramp alongside robotaxi fleet expansion, Optimus production, and AI compute — spending Tesla says will keep growing over the next two to three years. The Semi itself uses Tesla’s Megacharger, a separate high-power charging standard from the Supercharger network passenger cars use, so the two charging systems don’t currently overlap at most sites.
