Georgia won’t rebate your Tesla, but it will pay for your home charger.

If you’re buying a Tesla in Georgia, don’t expect the state to cut you a check. Georgia has no state tax credit or rebate for purchasing an electric vehicle — it isn’t listed among the state’s current incentives in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center summary for Georgia. The federal purchase credit is gone as well: the IRS says the New Clean Vehicle Credit is not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, unless you signed a binding contract and made a payment before that date.

You’ll also pay more at registration

Georgia charges EV owners an extra annual fee on top of normal registration. For the period running July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the Georgia Department of Revenue sets the non-commercial alternative fuel vehicle fee at $238.59, up from $234.97 the year before. The fee applies to any vehicle that runs solely on electricity, and it’s adjusted annually using a formula tied to national fuel-efficiency gains and inflation.

The one incentive that’s still real: a charger rebate from Georgia Power

If you’re a Georgia Power customer, the utility will still put money toward a Level 2 charger at your home. Georgia Power’s marketing page advertises “up to $300” for installations completed between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2028. But the utility’s own 2026 Terms and Conditions document sets the actual rebate at $150 per charger, available for installations completed by December 31, 2026, while funds last. If you’re counting on this one, work from the $150 figure in the signed terms, not the headline number on the marketing page, and confirm the current amount before you buy a charger.

A few rules that trip people up: the charger has to be a wall- or pedestal-mounted Level 2 unit on its own dedicated circuit — Tesla’s Mobile Connector doesn’t qualify. You can claim it on up to two chargers per account, for the life of the account. And you have six months after installation to file through the Georgia Power EV Rebate Portal, with an installation invoice and a separate charger invoice as proof.

What this means if you’re ordering now

Budget as if Georgia contributes nothing to the purchase price, because right now it doesn’t. The $150 charger rebate is real money if you’re installing a home charger anyway, but it’s not going to offset a meaningful share of what you pay for the car. If you’re on the fence about home charging equipment, apply for the Georgia Power rebate before funds run out for the year — it’s one of the few things left on the table for a Tesla buyer in this state.
