Tesla used the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany, running September 15–20, to reveal specifications for a European version of the Semi, its electric heavy-duty truck. The reveal follows a confirmation back in August that Europe would get its own launch details at the show, rather than a continued wait, as Electrek reported at the time.
What the European Semi is rated for
Tesla says the European Semi is rated for up to 550 km (about 342 miles) of range at a fully loaded 40-tonne gross combination weight, working out to roughly 1 kWh per km, according to specs Tesla shared and detailed by Electrek. Tesla’s Megacharger for the truck can add back about 60% of range in 30 minutes at up to 800 kW. The truck’s curb weight is listed at 9,100 kg (about 20,000 lbs), and it includes an electric power take-off (ePTO) rated up to 25 kW, which lets the truck run onboard equipment like refrigeration units without a separate engine.
How that compares to the US truck
Those figures are lower than the US-market Semi, which Tesla rates at up to 500 miles (805 km) of range on its Long Range version, using an 822 kWh battery and charging at up to 1.2 MW on a Megacharger (about 70% back in 30 minutes). The gap suggests Tesla may be pairing the European launch with a smaller, standard-range battery pack rather than shipping the same Long Range truck sold in the US, though Tesla hasn’t confirmed that directly.
No price yet, and deliveries are more than a year out
Tesla still hasn’t announced European pricing or an on-sale date. Reporting around the Hannover reveal points to European deliveries starting in 2027. In the US, the Semi has listed around $260,000 for the Standard Range truck and $290,000 for Long Range.
For Tesla owners, the Semi itself isn’t something you’ll park in a driveway, but it’s part of the same manufacturing and charging buildout — including the dedicated Semi factory in Nevada set to open September 24 — that Tesla is scaling alongside its passenger lineup.
